Set your own standard

Proper Standard is an approach to living created by Elle Begely and Tamara Hansen, grounded in the belief that the standard you set defines the life you live.

Start by seeing the interference in your life.

BEFORE YOU ADD MORE, GET CLEAR.

We live surrounded by ideas about what to pursue, improve, believe, buy and become. Knowing what is true for you is the harder task. Proper Standard begins there, with enough presence to notice what is interfering, clarity about what you choose and the agency to act on it.

ELLE BEGELY & TAMARA HANSEN

We’ve spent 30 years in conversation.

We share a love of food, long conversations, big ideas and being outside. Tamara runs marathons; Elle considers 5am an entirely reasonable time to begin the day. We've built six businesses together, evolved our health profoundly, challenged each other's thinking for decades and learned that two people can hold very different perspectives without either needing to surrender their own.

Best friends for three decades and business partners for half that time, ours has always been a relationship built around curiosity: about human behaviour, the environments we inhabit, and why we can know something intellectually yet continue to think, feel and act from patterns we didn't consciously choose. Proper Standard is what happened when that lifelong inquiry became a body of work.

That is also how we work. We pay attention. We ask what sits beneath the obvious answer. We bring curiosity, lived experience and rigorous thinking every conversation.

We won't tell you what your standard should be. Our work is to help you get clear enough to set it — and live it.

THE BE ME™ FRAMEWORK

Learn what is influencing you.

Developed by Elle Begely and Tamara Hansen, BE ME™ is Proper Standard’s framework for seeing what is interfering with how you experience and participate in your life. It brings together four interconnected dimensions: Body, Environment, Mind and Energy. What happens in one affects the others.

The Personal Standard Score™ quiz shows where these dimensions are supporting you and where interference may be worth a closer look.

Body

Body

Your body is both lived experience and living system. What you consume, use and are exposed to, along with sleep, movement, pain and physical sensation, can influence how you feel, think and participate in your life.

Environment

Environment

Your environment extends beyond where you live. The spaces you inhabit, what you consume digitally and the people around you influence what you are exposed to, what becomes familiar and how you experience yourself and the world.

Mind

Mind

Your mind is constantly interpreting what you experience. Your physical state, environment, relationships and past experiences can all influence your thoughts, beliefs and emotions.

Energy

Energy

Energy is your connection to what exists beyond the thinking mind. Your inner and outer conditions can strengthen or quieten your connection to intuition, purpose and something greater than yourself, however you understand or name it.

Personal evolution is living to the standard you know you are capable of.

It can be exhausting to live inside a pattern you've outgrown or keep circling a decision that matters.

Our personal coaching gives you dedicated space to look beneath what is presenting on the surface. Together, we examine what is interfering with how you think and choose, so you can decide what you are willing to change and act from your own standard.

COACHING

ORGANISATIONS

People bring their lives to work.

Proper Standard works with leadership teams and organisations to examine what is interfering with how people think, decide and work, then turnd that insight into deliberate action with measurable outcomes.
